Louise, I am glad our article was insightful. Thanks for asking a great question...in fact, it inspired me to write an article about it as it is a very good question. So, stay tuned for a more detailed answer in the near future.

In the mean time, let me quickly say this: What's important is to be aware of how much Non-Billable Tasks you are filling your precious schedule with. And yes, there is a big difference between a Starbucks run and say, making your 5 follow up calls in a day. Both are non-billable, but one is "Potential Money Making" and the other one...well...an expensive caffeine fix. Ha!

Yes, marketing is vital to business success. So tracking your "Marketing Non-Billable Time" separately than your "Admin Non-Billable Time" is valuable.

Spending 60% of your time on billable tasks is ideal. Some Marketing Tasks such as F/Up calls can be included in that 60%.

I will review in a future article the DOs and DON'Ts and what we consider a Healthy Percentage Ratio of Admin, Marketing and Money Making Activities.

Don't hesitate to contact me directly if you want to discuss further.

Cheers,
Isabelle ;-)

Very insightful Isabelle. You mention two types of activities: non-billable and billable tasks. What activities fall under your non-billable category? Is it a combination of doing a Starbucks run and marketing for example? As we all know, self-promo is critical to the survival of a business, so what percentage of my time should I devote to this?
